Johnson Plastics was pleased to play a role in the “Extreme Makeover Home Edition” Jubilee House makeover, which aired on ABC on Sunday, Sept. 25.

The Step “N Stages Jubilee House, located in Fayetteville, N.C. provides temporary shelter and services for homeless female veterans and their children. More than 4000 volunteers, including businesses, civic leaders and individuals, donated supplies, money and more than 33,000 man-hours to build the house.

Johnson Plastics and Rowmark provided Rowmark Metalgraph Plus Brushed Antique gold with a Black core through Mark Wilson of Pro Sport Graphics in Fayetteville. The material was used to create the plaques that make up a ten-foot high wall on either side of a fireplace in the new dining room. First Lady Michelle Obama, who supported the project and was featured in the “Extreme Makeover Home Edition” episode, participated in placing the plaques, which will honor individual female veterans served by Jubilee House.

The new house will provide permanent housing for Marshall and her family, temporary housing for several families, and space and facilities to provide services for additional female veterans in need including: assistance with VA claims, job searches, discharge upgrades and financial literacy; transportation to the VA for medical care and treatment; and mentoring, peer counseling and support groups.

The award was based on the “total utilization of the entire space, any special effects that may have been used, over-all eye-catching appearance and colors used,” according to Richard Schaefer, chairman of the ARA Awards Committee and one of the supplier showcase judges. “What made the Johnson Plastics showcase stand out was that it was very colorful and bright and pleasant to look at,” he added, pointing out that they used the entire display case: back, side walls and bottom.

“The showcase gave us a wonderful opportunity to show off our exciting new sublimatable products just in time for the summer season,” said Margaret Johnson. “Winning the award was the icing on the cake.”
